About Us
Our Story How we started
Our Great-grandfather came to America from Spain when he was a young teenager. He worked his way out to the West and settled in Idaho, where he met our great-grandmother, who also had come to America from Spain. In time, they had established a sheep ranch. In the spring, the sheep were grazed from the ranch up into the mountains to Atlanta and by late fall, had made the round trip and were back to the Ranch in Glenns Ferry. While the sheep were away, alfalfa was grown and stacked to feed the sheep during the winter months, and in the spring, the process started again.
Our Grandpa and Dad changed the ranch over to cattle, still having a small band of sheep around because Grandpa enjoyed a good rack of lamb. As kids, we got to bottle-feed the lambs for Grandpa.
With the cattle came the corn. They started raising silage corn along with more alfalfa to feed the cattle during the winter months. After a spring branding, where the calves are given an 8-way vaccination to protect them against bovine diseases and are branded with a rocking S, they and their mamas are turned out onto the dessert range to graze on the grasses all spring, summer, and fall.
While they are out grazing and growing, we raise the alfalfa and corn for silage. The alfalfa is fed to the mama cows during the winter. The calves are weaned from their mama’s and hauled to our feedlot on our ranch, where they are fed the silage corn mixed with alfalfa. The bulls get to enjoy this nutritious and delicious feed at the ranch as well.
At the ranch, we also raise and train our horses and as they become kid-ready, we start the process again with a mare foaling. Rockin S Ranch has kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids that love to come and ride horses, 4 wheelers or in a side by side to help gather and trail our cattle.
